DU professor to appear on History Channel

When Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull debuts in movie theaters May 22, audiences will wonder if real-life archaeologists come close to the adventures of Dr. Jones. It’s a question the producers of an upcoming History Channel special try to answer. One of the interviews included in the two-hour documentary, Indiana Jones and the Ultimate Quest, is with Lawrence Conyers, a DU associate professor of archaeology.

Artist’s work is grounded in nostalgia

“It really is, because when you skydive you have to be in the moment and you can’t think about anything else,” says Gjertson, an assistant professor at DU’s School of Art and Art History. “It helps keep me sane and helps me deal with life.” But on earth, Gjertson is grounded by art, particularly art that explores nostalgia, personal and public comfort and society’s expectations of women. In April, she shared some of her work and the ideas behind it in a presentation to a group gathered at the Humanities Institute’s Faculty Lecture Series.

Project Homeless Connect helps more than 800 people

Project Homeless Connect helps more than 800 people

More than 680 homeless adults and 139 children — including 64 families — were assisted with job opportunities, housing, child care, health care and other vital services May 9 at Project Homeless Connect 6. The one-day event at DU’s Ritchie Center helped people overcome barriers to self-sufficiency by offering a full array of community services in one location.
