Examining the evidence on school vouchers. The results of America's first voucher experiments are in. The trouble is, no one can agree on what to make of them. Does a voucher threat make schools try harder? A recent Florida study said yes, but three analyses that replicate its methods show there?s no basis for that claim. Advocates of vouchers as a mechanism for improving school, HE and FE performance in the UK can learn from pilot schemes in the US. Read the details of these evaluations in Do School Vouchers Improve Student Performance? by Martin Carnoy of Stanford University.
