Children's Neighborhoods. This fascinating report explores the subtle interaction between children?s well-being and the neighborhoods in which they grow up. By comparing the characteristics of three neighborhoods (the average age of the residents, the turnover of the population, resident's perceptions of the size of the neighborhood, perceptions of safety, relationships with neighbors) with children's behavior, school performance and health the authors test which neighborhood characteristics are most important for children's well-being. "In Our Backyard: How 3 L.A. Neighborhoods Affect Kids' Lives" by Anne R. Pebley, and Mary E. Vaiana is published by RAND.
