Film Stars launch anti-genocide student movement in Rwanda

14 Aug 07 - Mia Farrow and Claire Hope-Ashitey today joined students from across Rwanda at the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre for the international launch of ‘Aegis Students’. To mark the event there was a screening of the film Shooting Dogs, which describes the terrible events of 1994 when UN peacekeepers failed to protect thousands of Rwandans seeking shelter from the genocide within Ecole Technique Officiele, a school on the outskirts of Kigali.

UN force authorised for Darfur: now is the moment of greatest risk

1 Aug 2007 - Last night’s UN Security Council resolution mandating over 19,000 troops and over 6,000 police for Darfur, with authorisation to use force to protect civilians, has been welcomed by campaigners as a landmark step in the right direction. Aegis has been calling for a force of over 25,000 troops with a Chapter VII mandate since publishing a dossier on the issue in May 2005.
