01 Aug 07 - The UN Security Council last night passed a resolution authorising a UN/AU mission of up to 26,000 troops and police to protect the people of Darfur. Ahead of the vote on the resolution, which was tabled by and , Gordon Brown addressed the UN stating, “we must be clear if any party blocks progress and the killings continue, I and others will redouble our efforts to impose further sanctions. The message for Darfur is that it is time for change.”

£10,000 raised to house Rwandan survivor

17 July 07 – Ten teenagers from West Bridgford Comprehensive School in Nottingham today visited the Holocaust Centre, home of the Aegis Trust for genocide prevention, to present a cheque for over £2,000. This is the final part of a grand total of over £10,000 raised in the past year by students and community groups across Nottinghamshire to provide a home for Anne-Marie. During the genocide in , 1994, Anne-Marie was gang-raped after seeing her two-year-old baby killed in front of her. Her husband was also murdered. Despite the brutality, she survived with one son, Patrick. She was, however, left infected with AIDS

Foreign ministers urged to create Oil Trust Fund for Sudan

As the French-led contact group of foreign ministers met in Paris today to discuss steps to resolve the Darfur crisis, leading figures joined the Aegis Trust and Human Rights Watch to call on them to establish an oil trust fund for Sudan, allowing the country to continue exporting oil but blocking revenues from being used for military expenditure or support for the Janjaweed militia in Darfur
