Italy as an Immigration Country
Italy as an Immigration Country. Italy is faced with a sudden change in her role. After having been, until recently, an emigration country, Italy has to take up the challenges thrown down by the increasing number of foreign nationals in political, social, economic and cultural terms. This lecture attempts to explain the particular characteristics of the Italian approach to immigration, both internationally and domestically, for which the new Immigration Act (law No 189/2002) has introduced a number of important changes.
