Justice and Social Exclusion

Justice and Social Exclusion. "The Future of Social Injustice in Britain: A New Mission for the Community Legal Service" provides a cool analysis of the gaping hole at the centre of the UK Labour Government's anti-poverty strategy. Access to justice can be crucial for the heavily indebted, those appealing against social housing authorities and people seeking to challenge rulings on the welfare benefits entitlements. The Lord Chancellor's Department, no friend of the poor, has removed public funding from many types of cases but hasn't used expenditure savings to promote access to justice. This paper by Jonathan Stein, an American legal activist, makes a series of proposals aimed at imbuing the Community Legal Service with a social justice mission.
