Free Trade and Canada: 15 Years Later " Concludes that free trade has promoted a more modern and productive Canadian manufacturing sector, which has helped sustain well-paying jobs in that sector. There is also evidence, Daniel Schwanen says, that it has been beneficial to employment and incomes in Canada in many trade-related services. Schwanen nevertheless says that in spite of these positive effects, Canada?s adjustment to the competitive North American economy continues to be a concern. He thus calls for strategies toward North American integration that reflect the complementary nature of trade, services, investment and migration flows.
