The immigration debate in Quebec will determine whether Jean Charest's government survives

"Reasonable accommodation" is an apt description of Premier Jean Charest's style and approach to politics since he was first elected to the House of Commons 24 years ago. And his reasonable and accommodating style is one reason why he has survived so long in the tangled world of Canadian and Quebec politics. It is ironic that as he begins the year with his survival once again a question mark, the phrase "reasonable accommodation" is becoming significant in the ongoing Quebec debate about his future, and Quebec's. The issue has already scarred several of Charest's opponents.
