WINNING STUDENT ESSAYS ADDRESS POLICY PRIORITIES FOR CANADA debt

Montreal – The Institute for Research on Public Policy (IRPP) today published on its Web site the winning essays for 2012-13 in the annual Canadian Priorities Agenda student essay competition. Held every year as part of the University of Toronto’s Masters in Public Policy program, this year’s winners are Fardowsa Hashi and Linda Friis Petersen. In the capstone seminar students take on the role of judges and write papers proposing a policy agenda based on a broad menu of options. The winners of the 2013 competition advance the position that for Canada, as a small, open economy, the basis of economic growth is globalization. They both make the case for diversifying trade toward Asia.
