| Audit of Wisconsin Works (W2). The Legislative Audit Bureau of Wisconsin have issued this evaluation of the famous welfare to work scheme. They find that while employment has increased slightly, the jobs are often low paying. The numbers receiving assistance have decreased dramatically. The W2 scheme operates at a higher public cost than the previous AFDC programme. The report includes data on public expenditure and effect on outcomes (welfare caseloads, employment, and income of participants).. | By Legislative Audit Bureau of Wisconsin, US. | Employment Policy Resource. |

| Evidence to date on the working and effectiveness of ALMPs in New Zealand . Active Labour Market Policies (ALMPs) are intervention programmes and policies that actively assist people into employment. This research summarises the evidence from New Zealand employment programme evaluations to answer the following questions: which programmes work for whom; which groups of people benefit from which approach; how cost-effective are the programmes; and why use certain approaches with certain people under certain circumstances. This paper also reviews the relevant international evidence on employment programmes, and identifies gaps in our knowledge. It therefore contributes to a better understanding of not only the employment programmes, but also the Employment Strategy. | Tomorrow?s Welfare State The second British?German Trade Union Forum - organised jointly by the Anglo-German Foundation and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation - brought together some 41 representatives of German and British trade unions to discuss the nature and scope of ?tomorrow?s welfare state?. The meeting was timely, as consensual assumptions that have governed social policy for many decades in both the UK and Germany are being vigorously challenged. The most influential and most powerful impetus for change is coming from the heart of the two centre-left governments that is asking fundamental questions about the nature and funding of the welfare state. The discussions and debates of the bilateral conference in Berlin are summarized in this conference report.? is published by Anglo- German Foundation. | By Anglo- German Foundation , Germany. | Welfare and Social Security Policy Resource. |
