NFER Teacher Voice Omnibus April 2012 Survey: Volunteering in schools
In the April 2012 Teacher Voice Omnibus survey, 1555 teachers (869 primary, 693 secondary) completed a question on volunteering in their schools. The NFER wanted to find out who currently volunteers in schools and in what capacity the volunteers are utilised. The report contains comparisons between school phases as well as highlighting the contrast between the use of parental and community volunteering. Further analyses on whether volunteering is reaching those most in need was also carried out.

Striking a New Deal for Defense

Whether or not the sequester goes into effect — or lasts only a couple of months — the Pentagon’s budget is surely coming down another notch or two. That’s simply the reality of the current economic and strategic circumstance. It’s time for defense leaders to plan accordingly. The surest way to make smaller Pentagon budgets work is to cut end strength and structure — fewer troops, brigades, ships and aircraft. In the near term this might be managed by reducing the number of soldiers and the size of units routinely stationed or rotated abroad.>

The IRPP publishes the best paper in the 2012 Canadian Priorities Agenda graduate course
In his paper, Nichols advocates the following five policy priorities for continued socio-economic prosperity: pursuing the Canada-US perimeter for a more efficient inter-organizational framework, pursuing trade diversification, re-tooling finance for innovation, expanding the Federal Skilled Worker Program to increase the number of immigrants admitted to Canada, and introducing Social Impact Bonds to encourage the delivery of more cost-efficient and effective social programs..
