More Chemicals May Pose Higher Risk for Humans than Previously Thought

Scientists publishing in the 13 July issue of Science believe that several organic chemicals like pesticides may pose higher environmental and human-health risks than previously thought. Because regulatory agencies currently classify chemicals as hazardous according to how they accumulate in aquatic food webs, the authors call on the agencies to expand the number of chemicals monitored for posing threats to humans. That number could reach as high as one-third of the organic chemicals in use.

Past and Current AAAS Leaders Aid Climate Change Report for United Nations

28 February 2007.  An elite panel of scientists, including several current and past AAAS officers, has outlined an ambitious roadmap for the United Nations to head off the worst climate changes and adapt to those that can no longer be avoided. The report, requested by the U.N. and sponsored by the private United Nations Foundation and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, warns that society faces two starkly different futures.
