Social Mobility .This paper investigates the role of marriage in intergenerational social mobility in Britain. It finds, for example, that for some groups marrying up is still an important method of upwards social mobility. John Ermisch and Marco Francesconi also argue that richer parents pass on a large stock of social and intellectual capital to their children. "Intergenerational Social Mobility and Assortive Mating in Britain" is published by the Institute for Social and Economic Research. .
